What is the biggest challenge facing women leaders in our industry today and how do you overcome it?

Truthfully, I feel very fortunate to work in an innovative industry that I have found is supportive of both women and men to balance their lives while working toward their career aspirations to make an impact on patient’s lives. And, I see very powerful female leaders around me in this industry that have started to pave the way. That said, there is still work be done. We must keep our momentum and continue to lean into one another to raise each other’s profiles for equality in senior leadership. In my opinion, we are an industry that is setting the pace and expectation for female leaders in other industries as well. The only way we can continue to lead this change is if we commit to each other that we will lift each other up, support each other’s aspirations, and make our voices heard. If we all make this commitment to ourselves, our colleagues, and young female professionals behind us, we will make this change in our industry!

We all have accountability in this. So, put your hand up. Don’t wait to ask for that promotion. Celebrate your small and big wins. Be courageous. Don’t be afraid of failure. Share your opinions. Put yourself first. Know your worth. Don’t doubt yourself.

Most importantly, BE YOU!

What trend in the pharmaceutical and life sciences industry doesn't get enough attention?

DIGITAL! I could not be the Digital Lead and not mention how important this trend is especially compounded with the new virtual world we are living in. It has never been so important to be where our customers are looking for us online. I am a strong believer and advocate for innovative, omni-channel operational plans that provide the best experience for our customers and patients. They rely on us to provide relevant and timely information about our medicines and it is our responsibility to deliver this. Pharma is challenged with strict regulations which we need to be mindful of, but evolve with our regulators to meet our obligation to our customers and patients with digital capabilities.

What healthy habits do you employ to maintain your mental health and wellbeing?

I am a strong believer in habits as it has been one of the catalysts that has helped me succeed. One of my favorite mottos is “it takes 21 days to make or break a habit”, which is something I have employed on myself several times throughout my career. I am an early riser who sets aside time for myself in the morning hours to workout, meditate and take some much needed “me time” to start my day off energized and focused. Starting off my workday, I also try to book myself time in the morning before any meetings to level set on what are ‘must-dos’ that day to ensure that these activities are aligned to my overall deliverables that drive performance. These habits have been extremely impactful on my mental health and wellbeing as I feel productive and balanced.

What is a leader's role in creating culture?

In my opinion, leaders have the responsibility of working side by side with their team and rolling up their sleeves to have a deep understanding of what their team is up against to help make informed decisions when necessary. I like to empower my team to make decisions and give them the runway but want them to know I am there for them to problem solve and support with tough decisions. This empowered culture drives performance and allows for people to grow in their roles and feel supported.
